How long till the AF servers will fill up? I recall the SF servers took a while to fill up with players too.

If i skip SF and EF straight to AF will that affect my weapons or online account at all? ie. will i have to start from scratch with a new player on AF?

In the manner that DL-Cretin sets up the servers it'll be full in almost no time. I guess he'll have it as 4 player with 3 reserved slots.

I doubt you'll be forced to buy both but you can bet a dollar from the bottom that the EF and AF maps will be on the same sever. And that'll cause a problem - the server verifies if you are entitled to play before it lets you on. So let's assume you have EF and an EF map is in play. Join up. Round ends and AF map is loaded - will you be re-verified?

Seems like a question for DL_Cretin. I'll go post it on SGS

I will sit it out and wait to hear how many of you peeps bitch and moan about the reinstall after reinstall and the 5 cap breaking 500 mb downloads just to get the credits screen to run without popping u to blue screen. When I have had my moneys worth from SF then I'll contemplate AF.
So far I haven't even knifed TG in SF ( Punky on Drusky's log in)

not owning SF i kinda have a plan to get SF weapons in BF2 maps... TK Fivel, revive him with his kit and keep his gun.

Tried that over the weekend and it worked! ( didnt need to TK Fivel though ) :p

The only 'must have' for me is the f2000. Even the Scar-L is just a cosmetic change from the G36. Pity you can't upgrade c4 to a mini-Nuke or something equally as useful.

@useless, you do not need to buy SF to get the unlocks. Just get somebody else who has SF to earn a point or two on your account and the next time you log in you have some nice unlocks. I use a SCAR-L all the time and I do not have SF.

Do you need to score points?

I mean you could pop on - do a TK - get the gun unlock and go? Or do you need a positive score?

Well ... you need the fact that you played to be registered on the score/ranking server, so ... it's probablee safer to finish a map just incase the server is set to transmit on game-end only.

Okay - make sure you have the latest Downloader (I think it is 496).

You go pay your money at EA and that will update the downloader to reflect the Booster. What is new about the process over EF is that you can link the product at this point to your BF2 nick.

Some 4 hours later and you should be ready to install.

I got unzip errors.

Then you should be ready to play.

I have memory leakage errors that may have been caused by a corrupt install.

So everything is downloading again. I had had an issue with the map packs not allowing co op play. Maybe the remnants of that are also causing problems so I'll do a full reinstall later.

Okay the mini review.

The maps have new start up music - still with a martial theme. I guess it will get boring quickly enough.

The Alaskan Map is the different one - think along the line of the vanilla chinese maps - narrow and long. I flitted about in the little bird. Fast and agile. I also tried the Warthog. Like the blackhawks it has a gattling gun and it takes a little while to warm up. Atmospherewise you have wolves howling. This map is a midnight sun one - dark but not really. No night vision goggles here.

I tried the other two but in single player so they were fairly small. I think they are going to be very interesting. Lots of open spaces, lots of places to get hull down in. One is the highway and shopping mall. Maybe the worst of the lot. The other one is set in farm land with a big electric storm going on for sounds and visuals.

You have little houses and white picket fences. Motor vehicle wreckage and debris that could be a mine but isn't. Or is it?

As the name imples there are tanks and more tanks. Don't think the liars have enough members for them to steal them all. Maybe that isn't true. But if they invited all their friends, well then there would be plenty spare.

For me the midnight sun and the operation harvest maps are looking the best. But who knows, maybe a 64 player road rage on that clover leaf interchange will be fun.

More stuff:

There is now a SGS server. Already made mucky by some intl players (pings over 500) and asault rebootmatrix. The map that I lurked on is set at 16 players at the moment - Operation Harvest. There is a big red Truck that you can drive around in - 18 wheels of justice if you put enough c4 on it. hehehe

I think that they have a weather model of sorts working. I mentioned that there was a thunderstorm on this map last night. Didn't notice it today - okay I didn't have sound on. But that could be seriously interesting.

I think I just may have to check it out tonight. Oh, I already have a massive 1 minutes worth of play time. That's how long before I got kicked on an intl server last night.

I flew it last night. It has a gattling gun and bombs. And is not the quickest about. The cannon does have that slight delay while it spools up to speed and there are two loads of bombs. No air to air missiles.

Other are saying that it can take a couple of AA hits (3 I think) before it goes boom but that it is susceptable to flak. Its low speed means that it can be hit by the flak. Of course one needs to understand how much there is on the map and I haven't had the time to answer that question yet.

yeah, the A10 is only a air-to-ground platform with a lethal gatling gun... i really want to hear that gun rip... in real life its gatling cannon can pierce the armor of tanks and anything else in its path...

This brings back great memories of playing A10 Warthog (A flight sim game that I think I played on a 286). Often completed a mission with half a wing gone etc and still made it home. I even bought a book on the A10 at a book sale after that.

I've mentioned the big red truck already although it does seem to be in the 32 player map.

In the Alaskan map there is a muscle car.

I wonder what else they've got.

Oh, and I got my explosive ordinance and vet air defence badges in Alaska. I am well chuffed.

Where does one actually BUY the AF and EF game? The EA store doesnt have them and whenever i click on either AF or EF it tells me to get it via the downloader.

can anybody point me to the right link on the EA site(s) as to where i can buy the thing? I already have an EA account FYI.

That's right.You get it via the downloader.

First, you pay for it. Once you've done that it will show up in you downloader. Normally you'd download and install but you have the files already. So once you've paid you can install.

In fact you can install right now (go home first). The payment process will create a link between your purchase and your nick. Next time you go into BF2 you'll see that the servers running AF aren't red.

thats where i went. i got the downloader and its installed. but where do i find the site to PAY for the game? anyways, it seems i cant use my credit card as its going to be valid from July only ( its a reissue ).

i did install all the packs last night but didnt go online. i will have to wait for July to get the game then. sigh.

YEEHA!! Played this last night and it was such a breath of fresh air in my BF2 experience.

From the wolves howling in the background on the Midnight Sun map, to blowing the hell outta the enemy tanks with that A10 Warthog on the Operation Road-rage map.

I especially like the fact that those scout heli's are mobile UAVs.

What I also like was the fact that I did not have to re-install my whole BF2 to get this to work. I downloaded, installed and played- 1,2,3.

Why can't EA make things this simple all the time?

run MSCONFIG, go to the STARTUP tab and tick off the CORE line which is the EA loader. ;)

Or, the simple way, uncheck the little remember me type box on the downloader login screen. Sorry, hope that works - otherwise it wasn't simple and you'll have to listen to Ruslan.

'Remember me' just keeps you from having to log in every time the downloader starts. Finally seems to work in the latest version though...

You don't use the downloader to purchase. You purchase on the website. Once you've done that, the download appears in the list within the Downloader and you can download. (If the downloader is open at the time of purchase, just EXIT (File->Exit), and then re-open it, and your download should now be listed.

Go here: http://account.ea.com/products/en_US/BF2ARMOR

And click the 'Buy Now' link.

You need to be signed on with your BF2 EA Account (the same one you use to login to the downloader).

Downloader is a good way to confirm your access to the product but you don't need it to purchase. You can actually install the files before you even purchase assuming you have access to them.

I tested it out on the 64 player maps (weird how they include 64 player maps here, but completely ignored EF) on a local server.

That mini-chopper is a hoot! The thing is HIGHLY manueverable... love it. ;)
Can't wait to give it a try 'live' per se.

The fact that it acts like a guided UAV is interesting as well - should make games quite fun.

So I'm interested but poor. Make that HEXTREMELY budget contios. How manny people are playing on these servers and how manny times a week? I mean some one who's been there make an estimate plz. OK right $10 isn't gonna make me poor but it might make me miss out on nando's or a pizza, see. So I want to know that this will be worth the Nando's I have to sit out on. The craving speaks loudly! Can I buy this with paypal cause I don't have a credit card? And Alber can you save me the bandwith by mailing me a CD or something? Paragon and me shares a connection and he's kinda uptight about cap LOL (Wouldn't be a propper post if i didn't stab at my neighbour :p :p LOL). Oh and what is the server's IP?

Can't help on that front - but anyone should be able to buy it for you - basically they create a link between the payment and your BF2 nick. You can install the files from a disk. I assume that you are not planning on spending 4 odd hours doing a download

When would you pay for AF? That might guide how quickly you want it mailed. I'd include the full 1.3 patch and the EF files too.
