Hi all,

Currently staring at the hot chicks on the cover of Factions, I was wondering, If I'm going to start playing GW, which should I buy: GW vanilla, or factions?

Both games ran separate from each other, but if you own either one you cant travel to their counterpart's respective areas.

I would say getting Prophecies ( GW Vanilla ) would be a better beginner game IMO.

At a later stage if you finish Prophecies you can get Factions.

Yeah, I agree with that too. In Factions the difficulty curve is very steep, whereas in Prophecies I was able to solo/hench most of the pre-searing quests, a lot of the post-searing ones and even some missions.

I also agree with the comments above. ArenaNet might claim that one can start with factions, but I do not really agree.

I'm getting the impression this is a close call, a split decision, sheesh can't you guys be more specific ;) :p

To be more specific is that you will enter the feel of the game more smoothly by playing GW vanilla and plus following the storyline which is entertaining too.

Once you tackle that and get more accustomed to the character development, skills required and enemies encountered you can hop into Factions with the experience required to ENJOY Factions to a better degree than simply lying dead 90% of the time wondering what hit you. ;)

Playing mostly BF2, I've become used to lying dead 90% of the time wondering what hit me . . .

I think Factions is easyer to start with as you gain XP at a much higher rate than if you were playing GW:P

But then again, that is just my oppinion.

Yes, experience wise for your character. But perhaps it will throw too much for a beginner to grasp all at once?

My first venture into Factions was with all lvl 20 party and needless to say i think i must have died 4-6 times like anybody else in the party at the outskirts of the city. :p

If you start off with factions, You start at the monestary place, Once you get to the city you are expected to be level 20 already.

But as I said it is more or less a matter of oppinion.

The 'Pre-Searing' in factions i think is more user friendly then the GW:P one

But i am unsure if everyone feels that way.

I have no objection to playing fodder for a while, but I would want to play with the guild, so which are most guys playing these days?

I've played a bit of GW - about 3 hours - with the client download, like I'm a vet! ;)

I play most places ...
But my time is limited of late (GF vs GW's) GF won ... so far ..

players are scattered in between Factions and Prophecies at the moment i think.

you shouldnt have difficulty in finding guild members to join you in quests to help you out. :)

I agree that the training area in Factions is easier and better designed. But once one reach the city in Factions, the pace picks up massively. The first chapter has a more gentle increase in level.

I started off playing Factions and if it wasn't for Paragon who's a vet and whom I can walk to (offline) and "say help with this" I'd have no idea what i was doing at all. Still not off the island yet even.

i agree with the 1547 posts above this one ;)

vanilla does give u very good experience to handle factions, which imho, is harder. All those who played vanilla will remeber thunderhead keep...i often refer to that as brilliant traing and i often think that THK is the spot that really does help u with the harder missions that follow and with factions :p

To me it doesnt really matter. Prophecies ease you into things where as Factions prepare you to play smarter because Factions are A LOT more difficult than Prophecies.

Yes, I think a fair number of the missions in Factions are harder than ThunderHead Keep. THK seemed almost relaxed the last time I did it, after having played factions for a while.

THK is easy, i only ever failed that once ...

i struggled an entire weekend with it until i decided to do it with henchies :p

it was a difficult one for me though if not the most difficult 1 in prophesies. But i agree GKM, there r mission in factions that r harder.

if ur just starting, prophesies ftw :D

Played THK once and passed it. I must say that it wasnt difficult and didnt seem to be difficult. Must also mention that the "book trick" was used and has been removed since.
