I always check Tom's Hardware whenever I feel like upgrading something, even if it doesn't happen because I know what I have should last me a good while longer.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that Ati's Radeon 5830, which retails for about R3k in South Africa, is on par (and better) with my monster nVidia GTX285. If you try and buy a GTX285 now you'll pay about R4.5-5K.

The 5830 uses less power & runs cooler as well as supporting DX11.

Ati 5830 vs nVidia GTX 285 (http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/charts/2010-gaming-graphics-charts-high-quality/compare,2131.html?prod%5B3996%5D=on&prod%5B4017%5D=on)

Interestingly enough, if you Crossfire 2 x 5830's they beat the snot out of two nVidia GTX295's in SLI (mostly):

Crossfire 2 x Ati 5830 vs SLI 2 x nVidia GTX 295 (http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/charts/2010-gaming-graphics-charts-high-quality/compare,2131.html?prod[4016]=on&prod[3993]=on)

Now that is serious value for money, R6k vs R12k, better performance, lower heat emission & less power draw.

Nice find flatty. ATI still seem to be winning in the gfx field but im sure it wont be long before nvidia are back up there. The only problem when they are up there is their pricing!

Yeah, if Ati keeps this up I'll probably get two mid-range Ati cards on my next upgrade & Crossfire them.
