As most of you know by now (I moan about it every time I log in), my BC2 would take a few tries to log in, and would normally timeout at least once (with a corresponding wait of about 3 minutes each try) while I watched a little circle going round and round saying "Updating Stats"
From here (http://gamers-underground.com/action-fps/32463-bad-company-2-tweaks.html) I found that opening a few ports on my router made a huge difference ! I can now log in, and actually be in the game within a minute or so, not 10 mins like previously.
I have a DLink 504T, so to do the same thing on your router might be slightly different - I set up the router as follows:
