View Full Version : Reputation Issue

It seems the addon that I installed to enhance the reputation system buggered it up, in that any rep that was given or taken resulted in a whole 0 points being applied. D'oh.

I have removed the offending plugin, however I have had to manually fix the reputation that was given since around the 8th June.

Typically, when you apply reputation, it takes your reputation power points, and adds that many points onto your targets reputation pool.
So, for example, I have 408 reputation power, so when I give you a + rep, you get 408 points added onto your pool. If I do the opposite, only HALF my power is used, so you would get -204 points removed from your pool.

So, I have used those rules when manually fixing the reputation that you may have given or taken away. Unfortunately there is no way for me to tell which was given (pos or neg), so I had to go on the reputation comment, if any. Fortunately most people leave comments, so it wasn't too hard.

Anyway, your reputation pools should be where they're supposed to be now, give or take one or two points, so it's no big deal. Only about 15 or so rep applications were affected, if that, so it wasn't a major issue to sort out.

All this rep fixing and mangling has made me think... should I completely reset everyone's reputation to zero from say, next year, and we start again?

Bear in mind, that if I reset the rep, the chance of me being able to actually keep the old rep comments are slim. It may be possible, but I'm not entirely sure.

If you're wondering what the heck this rep thing is, please see this FAQ entry: http://www.wargeeks.org/faq.php?faq=vb_faq#faq_faq_board_rep

(And if anybody wants to update the FAQ, or add anything, please go take a look and let me know.)

There seems to be some confusion.

I am asking if I should delete everyone's reputation pools, and set it to zero. The comments I am referring to, are the comments that are added when you give or take rep away. This has NOTHING to do with the forum posts. The only thing that forum posts have to do with this, is that they are where the rep is added and removed. The posts will remain. If you want to go back and give rep on an old post, go for it. Whatever blows your hair back.

I'd like to see more Rep comments on the report card, please. My rep comments date back to October last year, but i've been on the site since 2005/6, i would really like to go that far back and re-read the posts that got/cost me rep - I do it every so often, and every so often i find something that is truly hilarious or moving. I'd really miss those comments if they were no longer there.

I agree with Blinky, I would prefer to keep the rep comments too!

It's also nice to see the rep you give, thanks TG :woot:

I don't care if you want to reset it, but I'd really really like to keep the comments. If you can't keep the comments, then rather don't reset?

Oh, and before I get more PMs from apparently confused people, please pay attention to the changes announced here: http://www.wargeeks.org/showthread.php?t=9485

Teegee is awesome. The rep makes you feel loved but then again we dont need rep to feel that in this clan.

And another way is by turning off the PM On functionality. Easiest way I know how to stop people PM'ing.
