In what is a real coup for SuperSport, suitably-equipped subscribers will be able to watch some of the matches during the soccer World Cup on widescreen sets.

Those subscribers with the requisite sets (with the capability of screening at a ratio of 16:9) will be able to watch 37 matches in this format on SuperSport 6 or SuperSport 7 (see full schedule below).

To activate the widescreen option is simple.

While watching on either SS 6 or SS 7, viewers should press to the “menu” button on their remote control.

Scroll down to “advanced options” and press “OK”. Go to “tv installation” and press “OK” again, after which you will be asked to enter a pin code. That code is 9949.

The ratio that appears on the screen will be 4:3. Press “OK” and then the right arrow button. The ratio 16:9 will appear on the screen. Press “OK”, scroll down to “save settings” and press “OK” again.

Exit all the way out of the menu and your TV will automatically adjust to widescreen.

All matches that are on widescreen will still be normal ratio on SuperSport 3 and SuperSport 8.

Depending on the duration of the live broadcast of the West Indies-India cricket match on Tuesday, July 4, the first semifinal of the World Cup may also be broadcast on widescreen on SuperSport 7 at 8.30pm.
