Get rid of your World Cup Banter in this thread :D And to make it easier, I'll start.

Germany 4:2 Costa Rica

Good start for Germany, but a mostly boring game. Most of the goals were lucky, especially the third one. Kudos to CRC for actually pushing two balls into the German goal. But all in all too easy for Germany, and they played more lawn chess than football. I hate teams who do the time buying shyte. You guys are too well paid, frickin play!

Ecuador 2:0 Poland

Fell asleep during the second half, but it was an okay game, and from what I could see, a deserved victory for Ecuador.

England 1:0 Paraguay

Watched the second half and was bored out of my mind. England didn't even try to play a game, they just shoved the ball around. If your opponent is too easy, at least give the spectators their money's worth. Big Boo to the island apes.

Sweden 0:0 Trinidad & Tobago

Goalless draw, but the best game I have seen so far. Both teams tried hard and played well, Sweden was clearly dominating on the attacking side, but every attempt at scoring was spoiled either by the tight defense (team stacking! ;) ) or by the excellent T&T goalie. Some very courageous attacks by Trinidad as well, they gave Sweden a good wake up call. Not the greatest match ever, but was worth watching.

Your turn :D

Kudos to CRC for their effort and really providing a different first game of the world cup.

England, bleh. Lucky to have won with an own goal from Paraguay.

I agree with RN as the Sweden vs Tri & Tobago was the best game thus far, excitement all the way to the end as the 10-man Tri & Tobago team held off the Swedes with passion.

Currently watching the Argentina vs Ivory Coast game and quite surprised at how the Argentinians have pulled off 2 goals from a very strong IC side. Maybe the 2nd half will see the Ivorians have more luck.

didnt england win that game due to an own goal ?

argentina didnt impress me too much... too many theatrics in their dives... man, thats so irritating and made even worse then the player from the opposing team gets a yellow for doing nothing! :hurl:

I was really happy the CRCans managed to score - two goals nonetheless!

Very good stuff...

Although it was a pretty boring game for the most part...

a few currant rants :

1. Diving - give them frigging YELLOW cards... there is too much blatant diving from teams like Argentina and Portugal which are fake, i mean for flipping sake Mr Ref, look at the BIG screen TV for yourself! :chair:

2. Referees - too much whistle time, do they get a bonus for blowing the whistle as often as they can? Many times a team has the advantage with the ball and yet the whistle is blown... for what?

thats all for now... pity Angola and Ivory Coast didnt at least draw their games, their effort gave them a better team status but sadly the team which scores wins hey?

I wish they would penalize those guys who blatantly waste time. Argentine for example, they were just buying time in the last 15 minutes. That sub in the 92nd minute was completely unnecessary.

Anyway, here's some more match comments:

Argentina 2:1 Ivory Coast
Nice game, but as said above, too much time wasting by Argentina. Beautiful goal by Ivory Coast in the second half, one of the goals of the match.

Netherlands 1:0 Serbia & Montenegro
Okay match, not particularly exciting. Both teams could have done more.

Mexico 3:1 Iran
Deserved win by the Mexicans. Iran wasn't much of a force to be reckoned with on the field.

Australia 3:1 Japan
That first goal of Japan was somewhat shady. I think the Australians deserved the win they pulled off. Their goals were nicely set up and executed.

Czech Republic 3:0 USA
Best match I have seen so far now. US completely uninspired on the defense and harmless on the attack, except for a few moments. Beautiful goals by Koller and Rosicky. Too bad Koller got injured and had to leave the match (and possibly the rest of the world cup). Very, very nice game

Just add Italy to my Oscar Diving list of countries please... Ghana looked menacing but they just couldnt finish their moves in the Italian goal.

England 2:0 Trinidad & Tobago

Dreadful match, and a completely undeserved win for England. They scored a lucky goal in minute 85, then managed to pull off another one in 91. Kudos to T&T for playing bravely and efficiently. England's prodigy child Wayne Rooney made an appearance in the second half, after half the world including the commentators on Spuersport 3 were moaning for him to play, but he didn't score either of the goals and generally failed to impress.

At this rate, England is not going to see the semis...

Rooney is a absolute yob....

Dang dang dang... I STILL wanted the underdawg to win.. (in this case T&T)... Sooo close for most of the game, but yeah... I only watched until the first Eng goal then stopped.... Had Eisteddfod Singing Practise (which ios why Ive been away so much recently)

Rooney is NOT a YOB he is a CHAV !!!

Some of these refs are way too trigger happy. In Englad vs. Trinidad, Trinidad got two yellow cards for 'offences' that didn't warrant a cautioning. In Netherlands vs. Ivory Coast the same thing, IC got cards for nothing, and Netherlands got away with the dirtiest play. One of the dutch players fouled an IC player in the penalty area in a way that should have been a penalty...

i agree about the refs... they stop the game needlessly and give out cards like Click's Sale Coupons... :chair:

EDIT : as per Fivel's outstanding visual skills i fixed a typo...

Ghana 2:0 Czech Republic

As much as I like the Czechs, but Ghana deserved to win this one. They were simply the better team: faster, more organized, more consistent. The Czech were missing two important players and lost one to a red card in the second half. They simply weren't able to build up a game against Ghana. Let's hope that they fare better against Italy...

Ruslan74
17th June 2006, 08:15 PM
great game that one... it has got to be one of the best of the 2006 world cup.

now i hope the Czechs have enough stamina to take on Italy or else...

Go Ghana!

I'm really pleased an African team are doing reasonably well...

Considering that I havent really seen any other teams play...

Ruslan74

man the ref in the US vs Italy game was a noob!

3 red cards! what a way to mess up a game! :chair: :chair: :chair:

at least that leaves the whole group open to anything right now!

So England has made it to the quarterfinals - disappointing but expected. Their next opponent is either Netherlands or Portugal. Here's some tips to the Pommies how to play a better game.

1. Next time you put all your stakes on one player, make sure he doesn't look as embarrassing as Wayne Rooney did today.
2. Next time you take an early lead, don't suddenly stop playing. The fans paid good money to watch you playing, they deserve better.
3. Next time you get 3 minutes of stoppage time at the end of the game, refrain from making substitution at 91:30. Youi're blatantly wasting time. Whoever you're subbing, he can surely hold out those last few seconds as well.

The Ref was actually quite good in this match. I was very pleased with the two cards he handed out to English players for timewasting.

i didnt even bother watching the england game... was busy watching the initial miniseries of Battlestar Galactica... and i am hooked... now have to see season 1 and 2... :slide:

Heh, I've watched the entire BSG series - the last episode of season 2 is a whopper!

I see epguides has the first 6 episodes of season 3 listed - it apparently starts airing in the states in October!

(Sorry for the derail)

And just to bring it back on track - The really do take too long between these seasons - man there is such a cliff hanger at the end of season 2. Not in the 'Do they or don't they survive' but 'just how do they get out of this one?'

Now, if someone can change the title of this thread we'll be styling.

Ruslan74
26th June 2006, 10:50 AM
err... please dont spoil it for me... i will be starting season 1 tonight!

@Useless - what series does not have a cliff hanger at the end?

And I take it you watched the pilot episode before starting the mini-series.

And who keeps on about soccer?
