The last post here is pertinent. Still, it sucks that they're gimping PC games because of consoles.
It's sad, the PC can do so much more!
Bloody corporates ...
Taken from the site:
"I don't know why this didn't occur to me until tonight... but there are really 2 enemies here: Not just Nvidia's Physx and the fact that using it locks out Radeon owners, but Havok as well. I was just digging up some old links regarding Havok demoing software that used OpenCL in 2009. (such as http://www.pcper.com/news/Graphics-C...ysics?nid=6954). Since OpenCL is an open standard (duh), both AMD and Nvidia GPUs support it and thus any physics engine that utilized it would inherently have GPU support.
I now realize how disgustingly obvious it is why Intel bought Havok... I can't believe this didn't occur to me before. If physics via GPU support was mainstream, who here would be worried about upgrading their CPU?
I guess we have to pray for Bullet then. Because the vested interests behind PhysX and Havok clearly are preventing the mainstream physics via GPU support that, quite honestly, should have been standard 2 years ago. "
