    Default GPU cooler

Hopefully flatty can help me out here,

My one card, Gigabyte 6870 OC (with windforce cooler) the middle fan is on it's way. Can I get a new fan from somewhere or do I have to replace the whole cooler?

If it's a standard size fan, don't see why you couldn't do a hack job on it.

Was thinking about getting this and just cutting the guard off:
    It's R60
(it's a 80 mm slim which is exactly what I need)

You won't beat that option, Flea. You can normally only buy sets for specific models (dual fan), or individual ones with copper pipes 'n all.

Stupid BF3 Sig is wrong coz I obviously travel a couple of weeks ahead of electrons.

I ordered the fan, the guy reckons it could be delayed by 3 weeks, I hope the fan can hold out, if not I'm sure the card will run fine with two fans, I'll just up the speed, even at 100% it's barely audible, so no problems on that front.

Flea that fan should work, you might have to use a non pwm header for it though and have it running at full speed all the time. Rather do that than void any warranties.

I did check the warranty. It was only for a year, and it's long past
I would've just returned it and asked for a repair/replacement.
Anycow, that new fan arrives tomorrow, it has both pwm connectors, slim & normal so it should just be a plug in and go scenario. BUUUUUUUUT my experience tells me, plug n pray, modifications will be needed.

I ran out of graphite powder, I would've tried that on the old fan 1st. No use buying more powder for one silly fan.

yeah graphite powder is only good for fans you really have to specifically repair, normally you would toss it and replace it.
