    Default HDMI vs VGA!

    okie dokie!

So as far as I can see hdmi is crap!

I have connected my pc to the tv via HDMI... it gives me options of 720p, 1080i at some funky refresh rate etc etc.

When connected in these modes you still have to select your resolution afterwards, so you can be in 720p and run your game in 1024x768!!!
But directx is very fussy like this!
Getting something to run in nice fullscreen 1024x768 was just not going easy!

So... i went back to makro... mr salesman smiled at me now " ey wossup bru" .. so i bought a vga to vga connector.

Get home.. plug it all in ( bending a pin in the process of course)
Start tv... whammo... 1600x1200 res.. in full 60hz mode!
    1024x768@85hz mode.
Bf2 runs all the way.. and looks damn fantastic.
Running in 1600x1200 each pixel is still defined properly, crystal clear.
I play a dvd( which doesnt have a res hi enough to get the full potential but it works) .. do some gfx stuff.... tons better and simpler... no restrictions.

VGA is just better than HDMI

Now i almost bought the dvi 2 hdmi cable... was gonna try it out.. but it cost R500 and i was like .. stuff that! and then I still would of had to do these 720p modes and rubbish like that.

Funny thing is DVI has more bandwidth than VGA... but my VGA isn't running out of bandwidth on max settings anyway, so where is this need for DVI?

And another note... we tried to play a region 1 dvd in my drive.. of course the pc said "I'm sorry capin... i canna do it.. i just dont have the right code"
So then i played the dvd with VLC media player and hey presto... played region1 disk off a region 2 drive and a region 2 windows XP

    Lol.

I would imagine that DVI probably kicks in at high resolutions. 2000x1500@85hz sort of resolutions.

HDMI still is in its infancy with several standards that have yet to be officially seconded to the biggest companies, when the PS3 comes they should have a clear standard as to what HDMI is supposed to be.

the ps3 and xbox360 should be fine.. cause they are MADE for 720p.. so are their games etc etc... but its just cause HDMI is the only thing they can use for hi def.

HDMI itself is only usefull to the movie companies for their protected content

nope. the X360 uses regular component or vga HD adaptors to run in HD.

    wat is vga HD?

on my tv i have HDMI component input( 3 cables) , this other component plug also 3 cables ( which i assume will work with the ps2 component cable)
and then a HDMI connector ( special plug with lots of pins)
