Default ACER AL1916W 19" LCD display

So.. i went and bought one of these puppies!
    Here is the low down!
    Basic specs

    1440 x 900 maximum resolution
    8ms response
    Analogue input
    Contrast 500:I
    300 Nits brightness
    3 Year warranty

Cost was R2000 at incredible corrupition.. cheapest place i can get it it from pc zone (zones.co.za) in pinetown for R1899... but for R100 i'm not gonna drive all that way and spend my morning.

    So the arguments.
    Its not DVI
Yes it has no dvi input... i was concerned about this so i had a look at what dvi does and compared it to some dvi panels.
    Basically DVI is
    1. Digital
    2. Has more bandwidth than VGA

1.So I looked at the DVI monitors and this one... my human eye could not see any difference at all between the analog or digital signal
    2. 1440x900 which is the max res for this 19" wide does not even push the bandwidth of vga so DVI wasn't going to give me any advantage there.
Dvi ... not an issue in this case.

Response rate of 8ms.... now this is pretty low(not 2ms) but still damn decent.
As far as i can see there are two response times on lcd's.
    1. Input response, the time it takes for the signal to reach the lcd to actually be displayed.
    2. Pixel response.. basically how long it take to change colour( from say black to white)

Now the 1st one will make your game feel laggy... but at 8ms.. you wont see it at all.

The 2nd one will show up as blurry when you have lots of fast movement because the pixel that was showing a certian colour takes a while to change to another pixel... my old lcd displays this.. very noticable in things like warcraft 3 when scrolling. This lcd has no noticable pixel response.

Ok now the viewing angles and brightness.
I can view the lcd perfectly from straight forward to standing up. Looking at it from below the image becomes dull. Its a little odd but as it it straight up on the desk.. it works fine.

Left to right you can see everything!

The brightness is just right on full... contrast 40%. Playing games is great.
    Colours are brilliant.

So the low down.. its cheap R1899 at the right places.
Its 19"wide ( coding is nice.. you can have a nice long line of code and see the full thing)
Its got great viewing angles unless you are sitting underneath it.
Brightness could be maybe 5% brighter( just for games).. but perfectly acceptable.
    No image blurs/latency
Never had a 2nd doubt about having it since i got it!

i also went for a widescreen a while back. got myself the Mecer 19" WS which has DVI input and analogue, thus u can have my X360 and PC connected at the same time.

5 ms response time in gray to gray terms. otherwise its a worthy purchase seeing that more of the newer games support widescreen resolutions and watching movies on it is great!

got it from BT Games for R2200 which wasnt too bad compared to my 1 month old 19" LCD which i sold for R1800.

I have the same monitor, the Acer one that is...I could be happier with it but then I would have to have two of them...I'm really thrilled with it.

WEnt browsing the other day for LCD monitor and had a good look at this one.
Only concern was that its height is rather low.
