Default Crash To Desktop (with a little more)

Okay: about 5 days ago, I tried to run bf2. Fine, no problem. Logon to internet server, ok.

Try join a server, and the game immediately exits. Oookay?

Try fixing a couple of things, nothing works. Right, thats fine... Try repair (from the add/remove programs menu), which requires the disc. So I insert the disk, and it doesn't come up with 'play bf2' or anything, just install .

anyway, so i proceed to the add/remove programs menu and see if there's an option to 'repair'. There isnt, just remove.

Okay, so I decide to remove it. I click remove, it runs the installation help thingy like its meant to. Fine. At the end of the bar, a strange block flashes (I think its turquoise) for a millisecond and the whole thing exits. Same thing happens when I try and install from the CD. I apologise, but it's hard to get screenshots of the flashing blocks, as they only appear for a VERY short time.

I don't understand what's wrong? Have I borked something up, is a firewall being very mean or does the world just hate me!?

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

    Nuke the f***er.

    a. Check your program files directory for any EA / Battlefield 2 directories and delete everything.

    b. Go into your registry (regedit) and search and destroy anything pertaining to battlefield 2. (search for "battlefield" or "BF2", or "EA", and kill anything that looks relevant)

    Then try reinstall from CD.

It's what I had to do when I uninstall BF2 before I unistalled Special Forces.

I had the same thing happen to me when I first installed patch 1.2. But for me the uninstall/reinstallmethod worked. Did you kill the Battlefield 2 folder in My Documents as well before ou did the clean reinstall? Might be worth a try.

Yep I noted a similar experience with the Battlefield folder in My Docs. I did the whole delete, regedit, reinstall thing. The installation worked fine, until I copied the Battlefield My Docs folder back over the freshly reinstalled one. THe CTD fault that I had before reinstalling was back! Fortunately I had backed up the newly installed directory. The trick was to only copy back the 'profiles' sub directory.
