    Default Video Codecs tool?

    Hey guys,

I'm in the habit of downloading LOTS of standup video's, problem is, installing Codec left right and centre is not too healthy for my b!atch(PC).

Does anyone know of a util that could "scan" a video file and tell which codec(maybe not the right version ) to use?

Look for a util called GSpot - I think www.doom9.org might have a pointer to it.
    It works quite well.

I was going to recommed GSpot as well - as far as I know the only tool that can actually do that. It also has a 'Render' function which tells you if you will be able to play the movie with the codecs installed on your system.

The best (imho) codecs pack. Is Ace Mega Codecs. Basicaly, its comes with everything, including the kitchen sink, but completely spyware/adware free. It also comes bundled with all the important files such as G-Spot and Windows Media Player Classic (still the best player... and no, nothing like the current media players that MS has out there... this is in a league of its own and performs way better with video related media)

You can download it here: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...oDecS_Pack.htm

Its so leet it even comes with a built in virus/trojan scanner. If you install this baby u wont need to install another codec ever again. And yes, it also handles the cell phone codecs.

I've had bad experiences with these codec packs. Tried Nimo and Tsunami in the past, and at some point they all fusked up the system somehow. Plus they tend to interfere with games sometimes...
