Default The Darkest Evening of the Year - Dean Koontz

"Amy Redwing risks everything in her chosen field of dog rescue. When she confronts a violent drunk in order to rescue Nickie, a beautiful golden retriever, Amy has no misgivings. Dogs always do their best, and so will she.

But Amy's past is about to catch up with her. It threatens to turn her into a desperate, hunted creature - like those she has devoted her life to rescuing. And Brian, the one man who might save her, has a problem of his own in the terrifying shape of Vanessa, his ex-lover. She comes crashing back into his life just as Amy needs him most.

The darkest evening of their lives is approaching..."

I'm slightly more than halfway through, however I was hooked from Chapter 1.
You get the impression that this may be similar to Watchers, however not much has been revealed at this point.

Like most of his books, you have the extremely likeable and nice protagonist couple, with an extremely vile and disturbed antagonist.

The formula is pretty much the same so far, I'm just intrigued by how it all fits together.

You can definitely see that the author has a love of Labradors.

You can definitely see that the author likes his horrors.
Have you read that rats book of koontz? I forget the title, but it was about these demonic or mutated rats terrorising a family... he writes nice horror/thrillers!

Can't say that rings a bell.

The first book of his I ever read was Darkness Comes.
    Best book was Watchers.

Like most authors, he has also written some utter trash.

But he's made his money, i'm surprised that so little of his books ultimately become films, i think mebbe one or two that i know off.

There's been quite a lot actually, mostly straight to video.
    Nothing blockbusterish though.

Ah, see, it's the straight to video thing that keeps it off my radar.

Finished this one fairly quickly (a couple of days ago already) - not too bad. Feel good ending (as always) - this is just one of those "filler" books until his next best seller.
