    Default Awesome voicework

Been wanting to post this for a while. There is some awesome voicework going round, in film or as voiceovers for animateds and games. Here are my favourite voices, voiceworks and their actors (in random order, as they come to mind).

Lance Henriksen - mainly for his role in the series "Millennium". Awesome voice, deep and full, with a distinct growl. The kind of voice I can listen to for hours.

Tim Curry - specifically his voiceover work for the 'Gabriel Knight' games. Brilliant stuff. Very versatile voice actor.

Christopher Lee - few people know that he did voice work for two animated versions of Terry Pratchett novels. Three guesses as to who he voiced - Death of course. And I can't think of anyone who could do a better job with that character...

Christian Bale - specifically 'Batman Begins'. His voice as Batman is stunning, I don't know if they altered it electronically or not but it sounds absolutely awesome.

Stephen Russell - he was the voice of Garrett in the 'Thief' games.

Dennis Haysbert - The Unit, 24, and the voice of Sam Fisher's boss Irving Lambert in 'Splinter Cell - Pandora Tomorrow'.

There may be a few more, but these are the ones that come to mind as most impressive and memorable. Now you can call me weird - or add your opinion. Or both

Ok, ok, cool voiceovers you say?
Well, the ones you named are pretty cool (the ones i know, at least) and i'd like to ad to that:

Morgan Freeman: As the narrator in the Shawshank Redemption and the Narrator in The Bucket list, when that man gives a soulful soliloquy, i just want to start crying.

I'm surprised the i didn't see James Earl Jones on your list, or Sean Connery. I love those voices, they just resonate in the soul.

Thomas Jane as The Punisher (the game, not the film), like henriksen there is a distinctive growl and he sounds very menacing. Chills!

Jack Bauer - but Jack Bauer, and not because he is Jack Bauer, but because he expresses himself in that specific way, insinuating impending doom. Much like his work in Phone Booth

Gary Anthony Williams, John Witherspoon and Regina King for their voicework in The Boondocks. I would like to highlight the voice of Uncle Ruckus - Gary Williams - he sounds NOTHING even remotely close to that. Very good, very talented, very funny.

Seth McFarlane for his voice of Stan Smith (american Dad) he also sounds NOTHING like that, which makes his voice acting just brilliant!

Pacino - in anything and everything.

    Morgan Freeman indeed

Sir Richard Attenborough has a very soothing voice as well.

Then, as Blinky mentioned, James Earl Jones ... I could listen to that man for hours. Honestly, who didnt get chicken-meat *goosebumps/hoendervleis* from his voice-over portayal as Mufasa in The Lion King.

Tim Curry has a cool voice on him. Also a very flexible actor.

Another person's voice I enjoy is Sean Bean, especially his narration of Troy. Together with Ian McKellan they were two powerful voices in the fellowship of the ring as well.

Robin Williams carries a great deal of emotion in his voice - and watching any movie, you immediately respond to that.

And ironically enough, Dakota Fanning has a great story telling voice - if you don't believe me, watch the 10part mini series "Taken" by steven Spielberg. You'll be amazed. It was also a very good story.

Sean Connery is self-explanatory. But you are right, I should have thought of James Earl Jones, he is awesome.

Sean Bean is also good - he had a guest part in "Oblivion" as well.

Watching 24 again last night, i have to admit that James Morrison and Carlo Rota
(Carlo Rota you might remember from the big mob boss in boondock saints) also have marvelous voices. But in Rota's situation it's more about what he says instead of how he says it.

What about some annoying voices? I played a bit of Wii last night and that flippen okes that tjoons me "Nice On!" or "Nice Birdie!" I'm going to smack him...
but don't confuse annoying characters with annoying voicework.
