    Default more soundcard/microphone problems

    allo.

I am still waitng for my audigy 2 to arrive so in the mean time i am using the Realtek AC'97 Audio built in to my Gigabyte K8N-SLI motherboard. Now the problem is I cannot even get the microphone to work in windoze let alone BF2. If you ask me I think the problem lies in the gigabyte jack sensing software as it wont detect a microphone plugged in. Anyone had similar problems? It is very sh!tty playing BF2 with no mic so plz help

    thanks

Whoa, AC97 sucks bigtime. But I never had that kind of problem. Why don't you throw away the Gigabyte software and work with the drivers alone? If that doesn't work with the Gigabyte drivers, you should be able to pull a generic AC97 driver from www.realtek.com.tw. Make sure you have activated the 20db boost in the system settings, and use the VoIP setup application in the BF2 folder to test your mic.

That's all I can think of right now...
It is not the responsibility of a defender to leave the objective unguarded just so his opponent sucks less.

I had the exact same problem (sortof)

Basically, I ended up dl-ing a driver that was 20mbs that took 13 hours at a rate of 0.5kbs/second. It fixed all my problems so... DL A DRIVER! YEAH, DRIVER, YEAH!

Check the plug that connects the Front panel to the motherboard is in correctly, i.e. not swapped round, or slightly out. That will obv stop it from working correctly.

The motherboards I have seen recently also have jumpers that direct sound either at the front panel or the back plate, so it might be worth checking if they are set right for you. Maybe plug your mike into the back to see if that works.

Here is some really arcane advice - try disabling the sound chip in the bios, then install the drivers, then activate the sound in the bios.

Also, you might find if you back panel is used it disable the front panel

If you're going through hell, keep moving.
