Default Call of Duty 3 to be console ONLY!

Read about it here and grab the teaser trailer here.

"Through the eyes of four Allied soldiers, Call of Duty 3 brings players closer to the fury of combat as they fight through the Normandy Breakout, the harrowing offensive that liberated Paris and changed the fate of the world. Developed by Treyarch, Call of Duty 3 is the follow up to the #1 next-generation game and is scheduled for a 2006 release."

Are they killing off a PC classic or merely converting it to the next gaming standard?

Blah blah blah... Halo 2 was supposed to be Xbox only as well. Oh look - now they make it for PC. Vista required, but let's be honest - everyone will have it in time.

They will never be able to kill off the PC. There's too much there in terms of hardware to give it a miss. Consoles wouldn't be where they are today without the PC's enormous hardware progression over the last years. I don't want to get into a console vs. PC rant, but I see no point in trying to kill one of them off. Especially nowadays, that developing cross-platform has become easier than ever. Why would you want to kill a strong and (reasonably) healthy market?
It is not the responsibility of a defender to leave the objective unguarded just so his opponent sucks less.

*Sigh* This same discussion comes up every time a new gen of Consoles comes up. It happened with the PSone, PS2, Xbox, all of them.

PC's won't die, they're less swish at the moment because mass market consoles have caught up, after 5 years. But as soon as tech starts rolling along again (Physics cards for example) the Consoles will start to be left behind again and the relevance of PC's will be felt again.

One less WW2 game is a good thing in my book

Fictitious wars are one thing, but games that glorify one of the most heinous moments in history, I dunno, something always niggles me about it.

But it's probably just me, I'll go back to Monkey island now thanks . . .

i love em, i wrote a longish post about war and how they bad , but at the same time <and here is the condesed version> they cellerbrate this kinda of awesome brotherhood amoungst man, and some of the 'emotions' that are envolved are pretty pure and loving and unbeleavably amzing,. but yes war is bad and grim and horific if only we could have this brotherly love all the time word would be better...

Some new info out on this :

US magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly has revealed some interesting new details about Call of Duty 3 - including news that it'll feature a multiplayer mode for up to 24 players.

As detailed on the Xbox.com forums, CoD 3 will offer single or splitscreen multiplayer, and a new 'War' mode. Axis and allied teams will battle for strategic locations and vehicles, and you'll earn new abilities as you earn points - for example, scouts will only be able to call up a couple of artillery barrages at first, but as they gain more experience they can order more sustained attacks.

Gameplay changes will affect the way you do stuff like planting bombs - there's no more plain old pressing of the A button, you've got to go through the proper motions now. You might find yourself attempting to row a boat whilst simultaneously firing at your enemies, and you can expect a bit of hand-to-hand combat too. They're getting rid of the load times between levels, rather neatly.

As for the visuals, characters are said to move more realistically, and environments feature more textures and shaders. There are lots of nifty little improvements planned, such as foliage which remains flat after you've walked over it, grenades that scorch the ground, and destructible cover. You'll be able to look all around you, since windows won't be boarded up, and different surfaces - such as grass, steel, wood and so on - will react differently, and realistically, to bullets.

Call of Duty 3 is out later this year on PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360 and Wii.

Please note the "funny" parts of the press release in bold.
