Default Do you balance looks with gameplay?

Two things I'd just like to know from people around...

    1) Do you turn your graphics settings higher, and suffer a bit of lag but enjoy 'stunning visuals', or do you keep them low and try play smoothly?

    2) When you get a new suit of armour (for example, glass) do you instantly don it, as it gives you +2 to your overall armour rating, or do you sell it, as it looks truly stupid? Many friends of mine feel that some of the armour looks really dumb and they refuse to wear it, even if it means that they are stuck with a bad suit of armour that looks better.

    What are your views?

i know that when i played dialbo 2, alot, i used to pick items based on how they ook, partially because i like the way it looks, and also because i just think some weapons are cooler no matter what the stats are :#

    oops

so i would always be a necromancer in bonearmour or what not. so yea, visuals are important, i play for fun not to win

    Nicely said...

Ask greg/bambi about Diablo... and the caps... oms.. they were 1337

They nightmare caps were better than his full helm by a k@k long way at one point, but they looked so stoopid he refused to wear them..

ya for me is it really depends on the game but for like css i will reduce graphics for performance and a bit in bf2 (actually in css my settings are all on high coz for some reason i get better performance on high WEIRD!)

as for rpgs and adventure games i will take a hard thought to decide if something that is soo insanely good but looks like POO will be doned by me as for oblivion i will NEVER EVER EVER EVER (u get the point) wear glass armour even if it gives me a 10 armour bonus over my elven like what i had i will NOT waer it EVER

but for the caps thing in diablo in the beggining i wont wear a cap but there was ONE and ONLY one instance were i wore a cap. it was in nightmare act 5 were i got it it was a UNIQUE demonskin cap that i found with my assasin. it was SOO INSANE it gave like +20 to all stats +20 +2 or 1 to all skills !!!life regen insane defence and a pile of other bonuses BUT it looked like shit when i wore it, but i made the executive decision to wear it becase it DID make my assasin look more like an assasin even tho it looked like POOOO but the bonusses were to much to lose out on

I try to find the best balance. Depending on the game I can make do with relatively low FPS, in Oblivion for example I really don't need much more than 20. So I try and tweak a bit, get as much eye candy out as possible. In BF2 I need slightly higher FPS, so for the sake of performance I will sacrifice some eye candy if I have to.
It is not the responsibility of a defender to leave the objective unguarded just so his opponent sucks less.

Me agree's with rainy, I do the same, always do a bit of tweaking till it 'feels' right...

one drawback is that if eye candy is lacking, I start spending money I dont have, on 'much needed, must have' upgrades...

Hehe... Still, when you comp is like mine, those 'much needed, must have' upgrades REALLY are neccecary!

If I had a better comp, I prolly still wouldn't turn my graphics up, because personally I HATE lag and would much rather have the same visuals with less lag than anything else, now that I think of it...

Edited to be more on topic so that I could edit LM's post

[snipped because it's now on topic ]

After going to a mates house and using his LCD....the time has come for me to get one aswell......U know, one of these...MUST HAVE MUCH NEEDED things...

[this is Feral speaking, so that this post might too be on topic]
Everything one could get for a comp generally improved the quality of games. I know that LCD's are (in my opinion) better than janky clunky other ones, so technically splashing out on an LCD will imprve the looks of the game.

    I hope that made sense

Well, you know, I try very hard to balance looks with gameplay, that's why I always try to wash my face, brush my hair, put on some clean clothes etc before I play.
    [ I got 99 quests and a main ain't one ]
