Default Under the Dome - Stephen King

Closed this one just last night.

It's a doorstop at 877 pages, large format paperback. This one is wrist-
crampingly heavy to lug around, but oh man.. what a read!

It grabs you right from the beginning, and keeps you glued until the end.

Brief premise - The town of Chester's Mill is suddenly cut off from the rest of the world by an impenetrable dome. What now?

I was so engrossed, I was getting a bit panicky that King would flub the ending, leaving me disappointed. While it may not satisfy all (You can never satisfy everyone), it at least kept me happy.

Definitely worth a read if you're a fan!

I like Stephen King - he was an awesome sense of humour.

I actually read a bit about him the other day. Did you know his first book landed in the trash, his wife saved it & got it published? Imagine if she hadn't saved the manuscript. Sometimes it takes people we love to help us realize our dreams.

Then there was the time he was addicted to all sorts of drugs & things, and his family staged an intervention.

He also landed up spending quite a fair amount of time as a cripple after being involved in a motor car accident. (The guy that crashed into him died mysteriously & they still haven't solved the case)

    Interesting man.

He stole that Idea from The Simpsons Movie
Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

King's favourite insult always cracks me up, 'Why don't you take a flying f*** at a rolling doughnut?'

    Sheer genius.

I'm busy 'reading' the dark tower audio books. Really great, but it's got seriously wacked out in the 2nd last book.. He's quite an interesting character indeed, and generally a great read.

I've just added 'Under the dome' to my Calamari.net wishlist..

Anyone read the 'new' Robert Jordan, Wheel of Time book?

Optical Vortex: A corkscrew of light, with darkness at the center..

Yeah the new Wheel of Time book (by Brian Sanderson) was really good, it's a little different style from Jordan, but still a very good read, can't wait for the next one! Was actually meaning to make a new thread about it...
