UPGRADE IMMINENT
It will probably happen tonight. I will be taking the site offline while I do it. The site will be unavailable for a few hours, I'm sure you lot will survive.
Things will be VERY different after the upgrade. Give it some time, you'll get used to it. I'll also be fixing and changing stuff as we go on.
Some notable changes:
The whole style of the site is going to change. If you've seen the "new" mybb, then this is similar to that, but it'll be a whole lot better in our inimitable WrG way, if not immediately, then definitely over time.
Those of you who don't like it can just take a chill pill, and unbunch your panties.
Oh yes, the style of the site is a completely new thing. The old styles are COMPLETELY incompatible, so there will be no more Hot Coffee until I can make a new one (Someone hoard some roundtoits for me please).
There will now be a 'blogs' component. All users get their own blog, if you want it, that is. If not, don't use it. Simple.
There will be a CMS component with articles etc. Blog entries and forum posts can easily be promoted to "Article" level, or you can write a native article. It is my intention to allow all clan members the ability to write and publish articles. Just give me time to sort out the permissioning system, mkay. So don't expect to immediately jump in with an article as soon as the site goes live.
For now, I'll be setting the Forum as the main landing page on the site. If the CMS takes off and we get some decent stuff going, I may change the landing page to the CMS... but that's a discussion for another day.
The shoutbox will be different. The one we're currently using is not available for the new version, so I've had to change it. Yes, it will suck, mainly because it is different to the one you're used to. Get over it. It's either this, or no shoutbox at all.
Some of the nifty features, like automatic embedded video will change. That used to be handled by a plugin - now it is built into the board via a bbcode. Not entirely sure how it works yet, as I haven't experimented with it.
Um. That's about it. There will probably be other minor things that won't work anymore, or will work differently. If you're not sure, ASK. There may be (most likely will be) something stupid that I've forgotten about. Don't just assume I know about something, or something has been taken away. Check if I've mentioned it in one of the site related threads, otherwise ask about it in the inevitable "Site's done - any bugs?" type thread I'll create when done.
And so help me, if there's any mention of FBlue, there WILL be ban.
