I got a AMD Athlon X2 3800+ (2x 2000MHz 2x 512kb).
It really kicks ass I really cant see a reason not to get one besides the higher price. I have played nearly every new game on it and I have had absolutely NO trouble with it, actually the opposite I am always 1st to load on BF2 which has its advantagesIn the beggining there were problems with dual core with various applications including games but AMD brought out a driver to sort it out, available here: http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/..._13118,00.html
Its really shows its power with multitasking, ripping, encoding etc. Can run multiple resource hog programs without a hitch(obviously you need enough RAM). On my Athlon 2800 it takes a good few hours(+- 4) to encode a DivX movie to DVD format, the AThlon X2 does it in like 20mins. Dual core is definately the way things are going so if you are upgrading now I will definately recommend to go the dual core way because more and more apps/games are becoming multithreaded. I paid R2565 for mine, it should be a lil cheaper by now though...
what OS you running Brawler? Is it Xp 32 bit or Xp 64 bit?
we had a guy at the LAN who has a dual core and some games tend to hiccup ( ie. warp ingame ) even with AMD's patch installed.
most newer games which use the ID engine have support for dual-core CPU's and in the future expect more and more games to do so since most SDK's need to have that feature enabled due to console game development too.
Well I got a simialr rig. Ran Quake 4 normal, then did the dual core patch, it made a MASSIVE difference (havent run any metrics, but it is so noticably different you dont really have to). Also the new nVidia drivers are sposed to make use of dual core. BF intially had some issue, but they seem to have gone away. Most new gaming engines are going to support it.
